Dr. Stsiapan Stureika Appointed Advisor to the Rector for Relations with Civil Society

Dr Stsiapan Stureika, Associate Professor at the European Humanities University, has been appointed Advisor to the Rector for Relations with Civil Society. In this role, he will support the development of systematic dialogue between EHU and Belarusian civic, academic and cultural communities.

The new position is intended to strengthen EHU’s presence in Belarusian public and intellectual life and ensure regular two-way communication between the University and civil society organisations, independent academic and educational initiatives, professional communities, cultural figures, researchers and intellectuals.

“Dr. Stsiapan Stureika is a natural choice for this position. As an EHU alumnus who earned his doctoral degree in Europe, he combines a strong understanding of the University and its mission with substantial international academic experience. Most importantly, as an expert in heritage studies, he has a profound understanding of both the academic and practical dimensions of preserving and developing historical memory, identity, language and cultural heritage, as well as the complex sociocultural interactions that shape our region. I am confident that this combination of academic expertise, European experience and personal connection to EHU will enable him to make a significant contribution to advancing the University’s academic presnece.” said EHU Rector Dr Vilius Šadauskas.

“It is important to me that EHU remains a space where the diverse voices of Belarusian society can be heard and where their ideas can provide a foundation for meaningful academic, educational and cultural initiatives. The University has more than thirty years of experience working with Belarus, a large community of students, alumni and faculty, and the academic freedom necessary for this work. My task is to help realise this potential more fully and make EHU’s contribution to Belarusian intellectual and cultural life more visible,” said Stsiapan Stureika.

Stsiapan Stureika is an Associate Professor at the European Humanities University and a researcher and expert in the field of cultural heritage. He leads EHU study programmes in heritage and carries out research and public initiatives related to history, cultural memory and cultural rights. In 2026, he was elected to the Council of Europa Nostra, the pan-European federation of cultural heritage organisations.
