Studying in EU/EEA Countries
Countries where Erasmus+ study mobility can take place:
EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
EEA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
Other countries: North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The main selection round for long-term study mobility is held annually by 15 March. Subject to available funding, an additional call may be announced in September. Further selection rounds may be held at other times if necessary.
Calls for applications, application deadlines and lists of required documents are published on the EHU website and sent to students’ university email addresses.
To be eligible for selection, students must:
- have completed the first semester of their first year;
- have a grade point average of at least 7.5 for the most recently completed semester;
- have English language proficiency of at least B1, unless the host university requires a higher level;
- have no outstanding academic requirements or financial debts;
- confirm with their EHU academic programme coordinator that the chosen study programme is compatible with their programme at EHU.
First-year students in bachelor’s and integrated study programmes are subject to restrictions on undertaking study mobility during their first year, except for Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). Mobility during the final semester is also restricted. An individual exception may be granted to master’s students, subject to approval. Final-year bachelor’s students may apply for mobility to take place during their subsequent master’s studies at EHU.
Applicants may list up to three universities in order of preference. Exchanges are possible only with universities with which EHU has signed the relevant agreements.
Applications are assessed using the following criteria:
- academic performance in the most recently completed semester — 60%;
- motivation — 40%;
- proficiency in the language of instruction — 0.2 points;
- first-time participation — an additional 0.1 points;
- status as a participant with fewer opportunities — an additional 0.2 points.
The selection committee may invite applicants for an interview. If applicants receive equal scores, priority is given to the student with higher foreign language proficiency.
Selection results are sent to participants by email. Once selected, prepare the documents required by the host university within its deadlines.
Agree on your course selection with your EHU academic programme coordinator and complete the Learning Agreement.
At least two months before your studies begin, submit the following to the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator:
- an invitation from the host university specifying the duration of your studies;
- an approved Online Learning Agreement listing your courses;
- an application addressed to the Rector requesting approval to study at a partner university;
- your OLS language assessment result, if applicable.
Participants with fewer opportunities may be eligible for additional financial support. If you belong to this category, inform the International Mobility Manager or the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator before the Grant Agreement is prepared. Staff will provide confidential advice on the eligibility criteria, required supporting documents and procedures for receiving support.
If you require additional arrangements or assistance to participate in mobility, inform us at least two months before your mobility begins. This will allow time to arrange support and, where necessary, prepare a separate application for funding additional costs. If unforeseen circumstances arise later or your situation changes, contact us as soon as possible.
Once the documents have been received, a Grant Agreement is prepared, setting out the funding conditions for your mobility, including any agreed additional support.
For questions about documents, deadlines, immigration formalities and funding, contact the International Mobility Manager or the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator. For questions about course selection, contact your academic programme coordinator.
Follow the study programme set out in your approved Learning Agreement. If you need to change your course selection, agree on the changes with EHU and the host university in a timely manner.
Approval of these changes is necessary for the subsequent recognition of your learning outcomes. Courses not included in the agreement are generally not eligible for credit recognition.
If you wish to extend your studies into the spring semester, complete the following at least two months before the autumn semester ends:
- inform the International Mobility Manager and your EHU academic programme coordinator;
- agree on your course selection;
- submit an application and a Learning Agreement for the spring semester.
An extension is possible only within the same academic year. Additional funding depends on the available budget; an extension without an Erasmus+ grant is also possible.
If you need to shorten or interrupt your mobility, contact the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator in a timely manner, as changes to the duration of your stay may affect the amount of your grant.
Within 30 days of completing your studies, you must:
- submit confirmation of your study period signed by the host university;
- complete the online EU Survey — the link will be sent to your student email address;
- submit the result of your follow-up OLS language assessment, if applicable;
- submit documents confirming green travel and its duration, if you used this option;
- submit your Transcript of Records;
- submit an application to resume your studies at EHU.
In exceptional cases, the Transcript of Records may be submitted within 60 days of completing your mobility.
Provided that the Learning Agreement and any changes were approved in a timely manner and the agreed study programme was successfully completed, your learning outcomes and the ECTS credits earned will be fully recognised by EHU and recorded in your Diploma Supplement.
EHU will pay the remaining grant amount within 30 days of your fulfilling all reporting requirements.

Note: “Travel distance” means the distance between EHU (Vilnius) and the city of the host institution. The grant amount covers travel to the host institution’s city and back.
The travel distance must be calculated using the Erasmus+ distance calculator.
Green travel means travelling to and from the host institution using low-emission means of transport, such as buses or trains, or sharing a car with other passengers participating in mobility activities.
Students choosing green travel must inform the International Relations Office coordinator at least one month before departure.
Additional financial support may be provided to participants with fewer opportunities who are formally recognised as belonging to the most vulnerable groups in society. This support is added to the mobility grant at the following fixed rates:
- Long-term mobility: €250 per month;
- Short-term mobility: €100 for mobility lasting 5–14 days, or €150 for mobility lasting 15–30 days.
Applications for recognition as a participant with fewer opportunities under the categories approved by EHU must be submitted to International@ehu.lt.
EHU has approved the following categories of students with fewer opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme:
- Orphans or students without parental care (up to the age of 24);
- Students with special needs who require additional expenditure during mobility;
- Students who have come from Ukraine to study.
Procedure for Recognition as a Student with Fewer Opportunities under the Erasmus+ Programme
Recognition is granted only at the individual’s own request and on the basis of voluntarily provided personal data, when they seek financial, material or non-material support, or other benefits offered by the University.
A special committee is established by order of the Rector. It reviews requests, documents and information submitted by members of the university community to determine whether they qualify for the categories approved by EHU. Its decision is recorded in the meeting minutes.
Applications for formal recognition as a student with fewer opportunities under the EHU-approved Erasmus+ categories must be submitted to International@ehu.lt. Requests are reviewed and decisions are made within seven days of receipt.
Duration of the Exchange
Long-term study mobility lasts between 2 and 12 months. Students may participate in Erasmus+ more than once, but the total duration of all mobility periods must not exceed 12 months per study cycle, or 24 months for integrated study programmes. Zero-grant mobility periods also count towards these limits.
Funding
The grant is intended to cover part of your travel and living expenses. The amount and payment conditions are set out in the Grant Agreement. The initial payment is 80% of the total grant; the remaining amount is paid after the mobility has ended and all reporting requirements have been met.
Additional Support
Participants with fewer opportunities may receive an additional fixed grant. Students with disabilities may also apply for funding to cover necessary expenses based on actual costs. Contact the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator in advance for assistance with preparing the application.
Language Preparation
Participants have access to Online Language Support (OLS). The language assessment is mandatory where applicable to the mobility activity.
Advice and Guidance
The International Mobility Manager and the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator provide assistance with procedures, documents and funding. Your academic programme coordinator advises on course selection and recognition of learning outcomes.
