Conference Theme
Over the past century, cultural heritage has often been shaped by national narratives and institutional authority. Yet across Central and Eastern Europe – and particularly in post-socialist societies – heritage frequently exists beyond institutional care: fragmented, endangered, or rendered invisible. In such contexts, the responsibility for sustaining memory increasingly shifts to civil society, local communities, diasporas, and individuals.
This two-day event explores how heritage can be documented, reimagined, and cared for in fragile or hard-to-access environments. The program brings together leading researchers and practitioners (whose names are not disclosed for security reasons) to discuss grassroots initiatives, family-history practices, new curatorial approaches, and digital tools that reconnect dispersed narratives.
The program is based on the detailed schedule prepared for participants and includes presentations, panel discussions, film screenings, a hands-on workshop, and a digital-heritage showcase.
