Running alongside the conference will be a collective student exhibition presenting over ten photo projects created in 2025 as part of the course ‘Visual Expressiveness in Photography’. This exhibition will provide a visual accompaniment to the discussions, offering a practical insight into the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary medium as seen through the eyes of young photographers.
The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners involved in the current photographic discourse. “We invite you to join us in exploring and reflecting on a wide range of topics, from the unexpected connections between photography, the humanities, and technology, to its critical role in shaping historical memory and its potential in interdisciplinary creative projects,” say the organisers and compilers of the event programme.
How do camera optics and photography technology itself construct historical perception, and what opportunities does this open up for working with heritage? Where are the boundaries of interdisciplinary art practices based on photographic imagery? What is the role of criticism in the development of visual culture? These and other topics will be explored in presentations and subsequent discussions intended for artists, researchers, students and anyone interested in the development of the photographic medium. The programme will also feature presentations of student photoprojects, where the authors will share their perspectives on the medium and its interpretation.
The organisers of the “Photography is More Than…” conference invite the university community to join the dialogue on current issues in photography and contemporary visual culture.
